So here we are… week two of my song-a-week challenge. Monday’s Psalm was Psalm 28. I absolutely love this text as King David’s heart is bursting with thanksgiving. I personally was drawn to this psalm because of verse 7: “The Lord is my strength and shield. I trust him with all my heart. He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy. I burst out in songs of thanksgiving.” At Oikos, ever since Mike Breen preached several months ago, we have incorporated times of thanksgiving into our culture. We give thanks in worship, we give thanks in our homes, we give thanks in our missional communities. It has been nothing short of powerful. We know that the way to conquer the devil is by the blood of the lamb and the word of our testimony. Giving thanks is such an easy way to share our testimony.
Psalm 28 (NLT)
A psalm of David.
1 I pray to you, O Lord, my rock.
Do not turn a deaf ear to me.
For if you are silent,
I might as well give up and die.
2 Listen to my prayer for mercy
as I cry out to you for help,
as I lift my hands toward your holy sanctuary.Do not drag me away with the wicked—
with those who do evil—
those who speak friendly words to their neighbors
while planning evil in their hearts.
4 Give them the punishment they so richly deserve!
Measure it out in proportion to their wickedness.
Pay them back for all their evil deeds!
Give them a taste of what they have done to others.
5 They care nothing for what the Lord has done
or for what his hands have made.
So he will tear them down,
and they will never be rebuilt!
Praise the Lord!
For he has heard my cry for mercy.
7 The Lord is my strength and shield.
I trust him with all my heart.
He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy.
I burst out in songs of thanksgiving. 8 The Lord gives his people strength. He is a safe fortress for his anointed king. 9 Save your people! Bless Israel, your special possession. Lead them like a shepherd, and carry them in your arms forever.
“We Thank You” by Jason Phelps
V1: To You I come give me Your ear / I need you now I need You near
My soul awaits your living breath / You are my strength You are my rest
PRECHORUS: You are my God and we thank You….
CHORUS: For Your love / And we thank you for your grace / Our hearts are full and bursting forth / To You our hands are raised
V2: Praise the Lord my cry You hear / You wipe away my sin and tears
My trust is found in You alone / My rock, my joy, You are my home
BRIDGE: You are strong You are safe / We are held in your embrace
I would love to hear your thoughts and I hope that this song is a blessing to you. We will be debuting it in worship this Sunday at Oikos.
